After that, both leaders departed together in the same car towards the Prime Minister’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. This “car moment” instantly reminded people of a similar scene from exactly three months ago that had grabbed global attention.

Exactly three months earlier, on 1 September, the two leaders were seen riding together in the same car after a meeting.

The occasion was the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit held in Tianjin, China. After the summit, PM Modi and President Putin left together in one car for bilateral talks.

Photos of the two heads of state riding together went viral and sparked widespread discussion.

Many interpreted the images as a message to US President Donald Trump that despite pressure, the India-Russia relationship remains as strong

PM Modi had shared that photo on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption:
“After the formal programmes at the SCO Summit venue, President Putin and I travelled together for the bilateral meeting. Conversations with him are always insightful and inspiring.”

**What did Putin say about the “car moment” with Modi?**
Before his India visit, President Putin gave an exclusive interview to the India Today Group in which he spoke about sharing the car with PM Modi in China.

He said:
“On the way, we just talked like ordinary friends. We always have something to discuss. We only spoke about current issues. We got so engrossed in the conversation that we didn’t even realise people were waiting for us.”

This repeat of the “same car” gesture on 4 December 2025 is being widely seen as a strong public symbol of the close personal chemistry and strategic trust between Prime Minister Modi and President Putin, especially at a time when Western countries continue to pressure India over its ties with Russia.
