Five Injured in Virginia State University Shooting; Lockdown Lifted

A shooting near student residence halls at Virginia State University early Saturday morning left five people injured, triggering a temporary campus lockdown.
Officers responded to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street around 1:28 AM near the Quad Annexes residence halls, where they discovered five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. All victims were taken to area hospitals.Four individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while one remains in critical condition.University officials confirmed that at least one student was among those injured and has since been released from medical care.

The active lockdown on campus has been lifted, though police officers remain on scene as the investigation continues.Chesterfield County Police are leading the investigation with assistance from Virginia State University Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.A 19-year-old suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Vishal Garg—the entrepreneur who drew global attention in 2021 after laying off 900 employees in a brief Zoom call—has been removed from his role as chief executive of Better Home & Finance.
The board of directors voted unanimously (excluding Garg) to terminate him as CEO.In a statement, the board cited mounting concerns regarding Garg’s “judgment, temperament and credibility,” alongside cumulative net losses exceeding $1.5 billion since 2022 and a stock decline of over 90% during his tenure.Daniel Lewis, a hedge-fund manager who joined the board, has been appointed interim CEO.
Garg is contesting his dismissal, engaging legal counsel to dispute the board’s decision, claiming support from majority voting shareholders, and offering to work for $1 a year until the company achieves profitability.
