'By 12 Noon' — Iran's IRGC Issues Ultimatum to US Universities Across West Asia

Iran's Revolutionary Guards threatened to strike American university campuses in the Gulf unless Washington officially condemns US-Israeli attacks on Iranian academic institutions — as indirect peace talks quietly continue behind the scenes.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a stark ultimatum on Sunday, threatening to target American university campuses across the Gulf region unless the United States officially condemns alleged US-Israeli strikes that it says destroyed two Iranian universities — including a direct hit on Tehran's University of Science and Technology.

"If the US government wants its universities in the region to be free from retaliation… it must condemn the bombing of the universities in an official statement by 12 noon on Monday, March 30, Tehran time."

The warning sent immediate shockwaves through several prominent American institutions operating campuses in the Gulf. Texas A&M University in Qatar and New York University in the UAE are among those directly in the crosshairs. The IRGC advised all employees, professors, students, and surrounding residents to stay at least one kilometre away from US-affiliated campuses.

📍 What Was Struck in Tehran?
CNN geolocated multiple videos confirming damage to the University of Science and Technology in northeastern Tehran during Saturday's US-Israeli strikes. Iran's Mehr News Agency reported the school was hit during the attacks. No casualties were recorded at the university, though surrounding areas suffered structural damage.

The conflict traces back to February 28, when the United States and Israel launched pre-emptive airstrikes across Iran. The escalation reportedly resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, triggering sweeping Iranian retaliation against both Israeli targets and US military bases scattered across Gulf nations.

✍ Peace Talks: What's Happening Behind Closed Doors
Amid the fire and ultimatums, quiet diplomacy is stirring. Pakistan has stepped in as a potential mediator, with Islamabad expected to host foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt for de-escalation talks. Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian publicly thanked Pakistan for its efforts, while Germany's Foreign Minister indicated a direct US-Iran meeting on Pakistani soil could happen within the week. Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff has echoed that timeline.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed on March 25 that indirect exchanges between Washington and Tehran had taken place through "friendly countries," though he was careful to note these should not be construed as formal negotiations. President Trump, for his part, has signalled openness to dialogue and is believed to have proposed a 15-point peace plan.
