Explore the stories emerging from Afghanistan after a big earthquake, highlighting courage, unity, and the spirit of recovery.
India has stepped up to help Afghanistan after a big earthquake hit the country. The quake caused a lot of damage. Many people lost their lives. Others got hurt. Now, rescue teams work hard to save more. But roads are bad. Help is slow to reach some places. India sent aid fast. This shows how countries can work together in tough times.
First, let’s look at what happened. The earthquake struck late on Sunday night. It had a magnitude of 6.3. The center was in Kama district, Nangarhar province. That’s near the border with Pakistan. Tremors shook eastern Afghanistan. People felt them in Pakistan too. And even in parts of India. After the main quake, smaller shakes came. They were between 4 and 5 in strength. These made things worse for rescuers.

Officials say at least 1,411 people died. Over 3,000 got injured. Most deaths were in Kunar province. That’s one of the worst-hit spots. More than 12,000 people suffered directly. Four provinces got hit hard: Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, and Nuristan. Homes fell down. Roads broke. Phone networks stopped. Rescue teams face big problems. They can’t reach remote mountains easily. Aid groups give food, water, and medicine. But they need more help.
Now, about India’s role in India Afghanistan earthquake relief 2025. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar shared the news on X. India airlifted 21 tonnes of relief to Kabul. This includes blankets, tents, hygiene kits, water tanks, generators, kitchen tools, water purifiers, sleeping bags, medicines, wheelchairs, hand sanitizers, purification tablets, ORS, and medical items. He said India will watch the situation. And send more aid soon.
Before that, on Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs posted on X. They said India extends help to Afghanistan after the quake. Photos showed trucks with rice sacks and other food. India also sent 1,000 family tents to Kabul. And moved 15 tonnes of food from Kabul to Kunar. More supplies start coming from India tomorrow. Jaishankar talked to Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi. He gave condolences. And wished quick recovery for the hurt.
This is not new for India. The country often helps neighbors in crises. For example, in past quakes, India sent teams and supplies. Now, with the Taliban in power, aid is tricky. But India focuses on people. Not politics. This builds good ties. And shows India’s big heart.
Let’s see the bigger picture. Afghanistan sits on fault lines. Quakes happen often. From history, we know this. In 2023, a 6.3 quake in Herat killed 1,480. In 2022, a 6.2 in Khost took 1,163 lives. Back in 1998, Takhar had two big ones. One killed over 4,000. The 2015 Hindu Kush quake was 7.5. It hurt 2,536. Patterns show high deaths from weak homes. Many are mud or stone. They fall easy.
For data, here’s a table of recent big quakes in Afghanistan:
Date | Location | Magnitude | Deaths | Injuries | Damage Level |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
2025-08-31 | Kunar Province | 6.0 | 1,423+ | 3,500+ | Extreme |
2023-10-07 | Herat Province | 6.3 | 1,480 | 2,400 | Extreme |
2022-06-21 | Khost Province | 6.2 | 1,163 | 2,976 | Extreme |
2015-10-26 | Hindu Kush | 7.5 | 399 | 2,536 | Significant |
2002-03-25 | Hindu Kush | 6.1 | 2,000 | 3,000 | Severe |
1998-05-30 | Takhar Province | 6.5 | 4,000+ | 10,000+ | Severe |
This table shows a trend. Quakes over 6.0 cause lots of harm. The 2025 one fits right in. Deaths are high because areas are remote. Health care is weak. Economy is bad since 2021.
Now, for a graph. It shows impact from the 2025 quake. One bar for deaths: 1,411. Next, injuries: 3,000 stacked on top. Then, total affected: 12,000 on that. Label it “Afghanistan Earthquake Impact 2025”. Y-axis is number of people. X-axis is “Affected Areas”. It highlights the scale. Colors: red for deaths, orange for injuries, yellow for affected. Easy to see.
People search for ways to help. From Quora and Reddit, many ask: “How can I donate to Afghanistan quake relief?” Or “Challenges in aid delivery?” Answers say give to trusted groups. Like UNOCHA or IRC. They handle food, shelter, medical care. Avoid scams. Check sites like reliefweb.int for updates.
Reddit discussions talk about the quake’s effects. Users share stories. One post: “Death toll over 1,400. Rescuers struggle in mountains.” Another: “India first to send aid.” This builds buzz. From Brainly and Chegg, students ask about quake causes. It’s plate tectonics. Hindu Kush zone is active.
This quake hits a poor country. Women and kids suffer most. Aid must reach them. India sets an example. It shows unity. No matter politics.
In the end, hope rises. People rebuild. With help from friends like India. Stay tuned for updates. Share this to spread awareness. Together, we can make a difference.
