A horrifying case of honour killing has shaken Nanded district in Maharashtra. A young woman named Aanchal and her boyfriend Saksham Tate had been deeply in love for the past three years. They wanted to get married, but Saksham belonged to a different caste, something Aanchal’s family could never accept.

Saksham was actually a friend of Aanchal’s brother and used to visit their home regularly. That’s how the two fell in love. As soon as the family found out about their relationship and their decision to marry, they fiercely opposed it.
What happened next was brutal:
– Aanchal’s father and brother, along with others, planned and executed Saksham’s murder.
– They first beat him mercilessly.
– Then shot him in the head.
– Still not satisfied, they crushed his skull with a heavy stone.
After killing her lover, Aanchal did something that left everyone stunned.
She went to Saksham’s house, applied haldi (turmeric) and sindoor (vermilion) on his lifeless body, and on herself, symbolically marrying him in death. She declared that she would now live in Saksham’s home as his bride.
Devastated and burning with anger, Aanchal has demanded the death penalty for everyone involved in the murder of her beloved Saksham.
Police have registered a case under various sections against six accused (including Aanchal’s father and brother) and all of them have been arrested.
This tragic incident once again highlights the brutal reality of honour killings that still occur in parts of the country in the name of caste and family “honour.”
