Zohran Mamdani is in news these days .President Donald Trump welcomed New York City’s new mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, to the White House on Friday. It was their first meeting.

Mamdani is a democratic socialist and has called Trump a “fascist” and other strong names in the past. Many people wondered if the meeting would be tense.
But the meeting was surprisingly friendly.
Zohran Mamdani Funny Moment with the Reporter
A Fox News reporter asked Zohran Mamdani in front of Trump:
“Do you still think President Trump is a fascist?”
Zohran Mamdani started to answer carefully, but before he could finish, President Trump laughed and interrupted him:
“That’s OK,” Trump said with a smile, while patting Mamdani on the arm.
“You can just say yes. It’s easier than explaining. I don’t mind.”
Everyone in the room laughed. Trump added, “I’ve been called worse things!”
Zohran Mamdani AND TRUMP What They Talked About?
The two leaders spoke for about an hour about problems in New York City:
- High cost of rent, groceries, and utilities
- Building more housing
- Making the city safer
- Lowering electricity bills (they both want Con Edison to charge less)
Trump said he wants New York to be strong and safe again. Mamdani said he will work with Trump “where we agree” to help the 8.5 million people who live in the city.
Public Safety
Mamdani said he will keep around 35,000 police officers, but he wants mental health experts—not police—to answer many non-emergency calls (for example, when someone is having a mental health crisis).
Trump agreed the city needs to get “very bad people” off the streets.
Zohran Mamdani AND TRUMP After the Meeting
President Trump posted photos on Truth Social and wrote:
“It was a Great Honor meeting Zohran Mamdani, the new Mayor of New York City!”
Both men said they are open to meeting again.
Why This Matters
Many Americans were surprised to see Trump and a far-left politician get along so well. President Trump showed he is willing to work with anyone—even people who strongly disagree with him—if it helps the country.
The meeting sends a message: even political enemies can sit down, talk, and try to solve problems together.
