Donald Trump has shocked the world. He raised tariffs on China to a massive 104%, effective tomorrow, Wednesday, April 9. The White House confirmed this bold move today. It’s a huge jump from the earlier 54% rate. Now, tensions are soaring as the US-China trade war heats up.
President Trump gave China a tight 24-hour deadline, and because of this he demanded they scrap their 34% retaliatory tariff on US goods. Beijing refused. Instead, they dared the US to act. Hours later, Trump fired back with this punishing tariff hike. “China wants a deal, but they don’t know how to start. We’re waiting,” he posted on Truth Social.
Before this, the US taxed China at just 10%. Trump called it a “rip-off” that cost America billions. Then, he rolled out his “reciprocal tariff” plan. It added 34% to match China’s rate, pushing it to 44%. After that, a 10% global tariff bumped it to 54%. Now, this extra 50% slams China alone. The total? A staggering 104%.
China hit back hard. “This is blackmail,” their commerce ministry said. They called it a “mistake on top of a mistake.” Meanwhile, global markets are trembling. Prices could skyrocket for everyday items like phones and clothes. Families might feel the pinch soon. Every country is worried, including Asian countries, that at any time a new tariff can be imposed on them. World leaders are trying to talk to the U.S. government. But for some reason the U.S. government slapped a big wound on China. The reason is clear: the U.S. never allows any country to go beyond the boundary line. You can see it in the Iran case.

Transitioning to the global view, nations are worried. Europe and Asia fear a trade war spiral. Still, Trump left room for talks. Will China call? No one knows yet. For now, the world watches anxiously.
