Pop icon Taylor Swift recently opened up about her dreamy engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce, sharing never-before-heard details of how he pulled off a romantic surprise proposal. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the singer revealed that Travis used his popular podcast New Heights as a clever distraction — and even went as far as using blackout curtains to keep her from discovering the secret preparations happening right outside his window.

Travis Kelce’s ‘Podcast Distraction’ Plan
During her conversation with Fallon, Swift described the elaborate steps Travis took to set the scene for the big moment. According to her, Kelce told her they would be recording an episode of New Heights, his podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, on the day of the proposal. However, what she didn’t know was that Travis’s garden was being transformed into what she lovingly called a “magical fairy garden” — complete with flowers, lights, and a romantic setup for his proposal.
“I think the podcast was just a ruse for him to keep me from looking out the window,” Taylor revealed with a laugh. “He would never use blackout drapes when he records the podcast, but that day, he covered every single window of the house. That’s when I started to think something was up.”
A Nervous Travis Kelce?
The Anti-Hero singer also admitted she noticed her usually confident fiancé acting differently that day. “I realized he was walking around kind of nervous about the podcast,” she recalled. “He told me, ‘I know how much this means to you,’ because we had been talking about doing a podcast together and announcing my album. But I could tell something else was going on — I’d never seen this dude nervous. He’s a professional non-nervous person!”
Host Jimmy Fallon jokingly added, “Of course he wasn’t nervous about the podcast,” prompting laughter from the audience.
When Travis finally asked Taylor to join him outside for a glass of wine, she said everything became clear. “He said, ‘Do you want to go to the garden?’ and that’s when I realized why all the windows were covered,” Swift recalled, smiling.
The Romantic Garden Proposal
According to Taylor, Travis had transformed the garden into a breathtaking space filled with candles, fairy lights, and blooms — a scene straight out of a romantic movie. “It was beautiful. The garden looked like something out of a dream,” she shared. “It was just the two of us, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.”
The pair, who got engaged in August 2025, have quickly become one of the most beloved celebrity couples in the world, balancing their high-profile careers with a relationship that fans can’t stop gushing over.
Why Taylor Turned Down the Super Bowl Halftime Show
During the same interview, Taylor also addressed why she has so far declined offers to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show — an event that her fiancé, a star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, knows all too well.
“Jay-Z has always been very good to me, and our teams are close,” Taylor said. “But I’m in love with a guy who plays that sport on that actual field. This has nothing to do with Travis — he would love for me to do it. But I’m just too locked in. I can’t focus on performing when I’m watching him play.”
Her comments immediately went viral, with fans praising her for her heartfelt explanation and devotion to Travis.
Keeping the Engagement a Secret at Selena Gomez’s Wedding
Taylor also shared that she intentionally avoided discussing her engagement while attending her best friend Selena Gomez’s wedding to music producer Benny Blanco. “I did make a speech at her wedding,” she said, “but I made sure not to mention my engagement. Nobody wants to be that person who says, ‘It’s your wedding day, but guess what? I got engaged too!’ So I turned my ring around to keep it low-key.”
Fans applauded Swift’s humility and respect for her close friend’s big day, calling it “classic Taylor.”
Ed Sheeran Found Out via Instagram
One of the most surprising revelations from Taylor’s interview was that her longtime friend Ed Sheeran didn’t hear the engagement news directly from her. Instead, he found out like millions of fans — through her Instagram post.
“Ed doesn’t have a phone that works,” she explained. “When the news came out, I realized, ‘Oh my god, we forgot to call Ed!’” Taylor laughed as Fallon reacted with disbelief. “He eventually saw it on Instagram. I felt terrible, but he totally understood.”
A Love Story That Feels Straight Out of a Taylor Swift Song
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement has captured the world’s imagination, combining romance, humor, and heartfelt sincerity — much like Taylor’s own music. The pop superstar’s stories of a garden proposal, a nervous football champion, and an unintentional Instagram reveal have only deepened fans’ affection for the couple.
As Taylor put it simply, “He’s my favorite person I’ve ever met. No offense to anyone else, but the fact that this is the person I get to hang out with every day — that’s everything.”
Taylor Swift shares how Travis Kelce used blackout curtains and his podcast as cover for a “magical fairy garden” proposal, reveals she turned down the Super Bowl halftime show, and admits Ed Sheeran found out about the engagement from Instagram.
