Prime Minister Narendra Modi got to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on July 4, 2025, for a two-day trip. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years. Modi’s trip aims to make ties between India and Argentina stronger in key areas like trade, defense, farming, and energy. When he got to Ezeiza International Airport, he was warmly welcomed. The Indian crowd there cheered “Modi, Modi” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” showing their joy.
Modi will talk with Argentine President Javier Milei about ongoing teamwork. Areas like farming, key minerals, energy, trade, tourism, tech, and money will be talked about. “We will look to increase our good teamwork,” Modi posted on X. His five-country trip started in Ghana, Trinidad, and Tobago, Brazil, and now in Argentina, his third stop, after good visits to Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago.
This trip is big because India and Argentina’s money ties are growing. In 2024, India was the fifth-biggest trade friend of Argentina. Argentina sends sunflower and soybean oil to India, and the two are making lithium teamwork stronger, a key mineral for India’s clean energy hopes. A deal on mineral stuff was signed in August 2022, and the first working team met in January 2025. These steps show the deep teamwork between the two lands.
Also, Modi’s plans include giving respect at the statue of General José de San Martín, Argentina’s loved freedom fighter. He will also visit the famous Boca Juniors Stadium, a nod to Argentina’s big football culture. These visits aim to make cultural and people ties stronger. Like, the Indian crowd in Buenos Aires did a dance to welcome Modi, showing the deep link between the two lands.
This big visit is set to help India reach out more to the Global South. Modi’s trip shows India’s drive for strong friendships across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. After Argentina, he goes to Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit from July 5 to 8, then to Namibia. Each stop focuses on better trade, tech, and safety teamwork.
