Kathmandu, Nepal |10 sept.
– In the wake of fierce protests that have rocked Nepal’s capital, the army has taken to the streets to restore order. Thousands of demonstrators flooded Kathmandu, initially protesting a government ban on 26 social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. The unrest quickly evolved into widespread outrage against corruption and nepotism among the political elite.
The spark came from a viral “nepo kid” campaign exposing the opulent lives of politicians’ children and graft allegations. Protesters vandalized officials’ homes, torched government buildings, and even set parliament ablaze, forcing the prime minister to resign.
Over 20 people have died since Monday’s escalation. On Wednesday, the city appeared calm under heavy military presence.
