In a sweeping diplomatic turnaround that signals a new chapter for two nations that once stood on the brink of a full-scale diplomatic rupture, India and Canada have announced a sweeping package of agreements \u2014 the crown jewel of which is a landmark 10-year nuclear energy deal that could reshape the energy landscape across the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney flew into New Delhi for high-stakes talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, emerging from Hyderabad House with a suite of agreements spanning nuclear energy, critical minerals, space exploration, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, defence, and education. For two countries that spent the better part of the last two years trading diplomatic expulsions and suspending visa services, the shift in tone was striking.
“In civil nuclear energy, we have reached a landmark deal for long-term uranium supply,” Modi declared to reporters after the summit. “We will also work together on small modular reactors and advanced reactors.” He described the two nations as “natural partners in technology and innovation” \u2014 a phrase that would have seemed almost unimaginable just a year ago.
