Sydney, Australia – December 15, 2025
(America News World) – Australian police have revealed that the two gunmen responsible for a horrific mass shooting at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach were a father and son duo. The attack, which targeted a Jewish Hanukkah event on Sunday evening, left 15 people dead and dozens injured in what officials are calling a deliberate antisemitic terrorist act – Australia’s worst gun violence in nearly three decades.

The 50-year-old father was killed at the scene by police, bringing the total death toll to 16 (including one attacker). His 24-year-old son is in critical condition in hospital under heavy guard. Authorities confirmed the shooting lasted around 10 minutes, with the pair firing from an elevated position overlooking a park where about 1,000 people had gathered for the celebration.

Forty people remain hospitalized, including two police officers in serious but stable condition. Victims ranged in age from 10 to 87, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the violence on a packed, sunny evening at one of the world’s most famous beaches.

Witnesses described chaos as hundreds fled across the sand and into nearby streets. “I thought it was fireworks at first,” said local resident Morgan Gabriel, 27. “Then people started running everywhere. It’s heartbreaking – Bondi is usually so full of life.”

In a moment of bravery captured on video, a bystander named Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old fruit shop owner, tackled and disarmed one of the gunmen, despite being shot twice himself. He’s recovering after surgery and has been hailed as a hero who likely saved many lives.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited the site Monday, laying flowers and calling it “an act of pure evil.” He vowed national mourning with flags at half-mast and promised tougher gun laws, as leaders condemned the attack amid rising antisemitism concerns linked to global tensions.

World figures, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Indian PM Narendra Modi, offered condolences. As investigations continue, increased security surrounds Jewish communities across Australia.

This tragedy marks a dark day for the nation, shattering the peace at a beloved landmark during a joyous holiday. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the resilient Bondi community.
