Always wrapped in a hijab, even married her own brother’ – Trump launches fresh attack on Muslim MP Ilhan Omar

Trump’s sharp attack on Omar comes at a time when he has announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis living in Minnesota. This is not the first time in recent weeks that Trump and his MAGA supporters have targeted Congresswoman Omar.

US President Donald Trump has once again targeted Somali-born American Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, intensifying his attack on her immigration background. On Friday, Trump repeated the controversial and unproven allegation that Omar entered the United States illegally and married her own brother to obtain immigration benefits.

The remarks came after an incident near the White House in which an Afghan national opened fire on two National Guard soldiers. Reiterating his tough stance on immigration, Trump made these inflammatory claims.

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump called Omar “the worst member of Congress in America” and the representative from Minnesota. He wrote:

> “Ilhan Omar, who is always wrapped in her hijab and probably entered America illegally – because marrying your brother is against the rules to get in – does nothing but complain with hatred about our country, its Constitution, and how badly she and others are treated.”

He further described Somalia as a “failed, backward, crime-infested country.”

**No evidence exists** that Ilhan Omar ever married a relative or committed immigration fraud. Trump provided no facts or proof to support his claims.

### Who is Ilhan Omar?

Born in Somalia, Omar fled the country at the age of eight due to civil war. After spending four years (1991–1995) in a refugee camp in Kenya, she arrived in the United States in 1995 and became a US citizen in 2000. A Democratic leader known (in India) for her anti-India stance, Omar was re-elected to Congress for the fourth time in 2024.

– 2009: Legally married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi; separated in 2011.
– 2012: Third child born with Hirsi.
– 2017: Divorced Elmi.
– 2018: Remarried Hirsi (legal marriage).
– 2020: Divorced Hirsi again.
She is currently married to political consultant Tim Mynett.

A 2019 Daily Mail (UK) report claimed Omar allegedly told friends that Elmi was her biological brother and the marriage was for immigration purposes. However, this allegation has never been independently verified.

### Why have Trump’s attacks intensified?

Trump’s latest sharp attack comes days after he announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis living in Minnesota (affecting roughly 700 individuals). The US is also planning to re-examine green cards issued to citizens of 19 countries, including Somalia.

Trump further wrote:
“Somali gangs are roaming the streets looking for prey while our good people stay locked in their homes praying they won’t be harmed.”

This is not the first time in recent weeks that Trump and his MAGA supporters have targeted Congresswoman Omar. Earlier this month, Trump had attacked her Somali heritage and suggested she should leave America.
